REPUBLIC DAY 2015 WILL BRING JOY
Brigadier Chitranjan Sawant,VSM
Great Expectations I have as the 66th Republic Day approaches. It has been a matter of honour for me to do the running commentary on the electronic media in Hindi on the august national event, the Republic Day Parade, year after year for the last four decades plus. When some friends ask me if I feel bored seeing the Parade which is just about the same every year. No, not at all, I reply emphatically. I enjoy every event every year in the same manner as I had enjoyed the first time when I had the proud privilege of doing commentary in the opening years of 1970s. Not only that, I prepare the outline points on events as meticulously now as I had done then. Thorough preparation adds great confidence and it is reflected in the voice.
If my friends and other knowledgeable viewers switch on ZEE NEWS on 26 January 2015 at 0830 hrs they will be able to see me and hear me. After sometime we will see the Raj Path, the India Gate at one end and the Rashtrapati Bhawan at the other end. The Rajpath with myriad Indian and American flags fluttering in the morning breeze will look resplendent. Everything will be ship shape. Of course, it should be like that. It is a National Day. We observe it to commemorate the promulgation of our Constitution that the people of India gave to themselves on 26th January 1950. The Constituent Assembly under the chairmanship of Dr Rajendra Prasad had enacted the Constitution that was duly passed on 26 November 1949 but promulgated on 26 January 1950 to fulfill the aspirations of people of India who had taken a pledge on 26 January 1930 on the banks of Ravi in Lahore to ask for Poorna Swaraj from the British rulers after asking them to go home.
Pradhan Mantri Narendra Modi has given directions to all concerned to put Bharat of our dreams on display on the august day. Nari Shakti will be displayed loud and clear. Great and bold heroines will come alive from pages of history – right from Luxmibai, Rani of Jhansi to Panna Dhai of Chittor –and, of course, their modern counterparts will march in step along the Rajpath to let the spectators at home and abroad know that Women Empowerment or Nari Shakti is real, not fictitious. Three contingents of 148 lady officers and cadets from the Army, the Navy and the Air Force will march to the band tune Kadam Kadam Badhaye ja, Khushi Ke Geet Gayeja. The tune has been popular from the days of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj.
The Nuclear power and Make In India theme will be pronounced on Parade. The Indian Navy will showcase INS KOLKATA a ship built in Bharat right from the drawing board stage to its launching into the sea. The Air Force will display it might in the air with the latest fighter jets zooming past the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, who will take salute of all contingents. In the missile technology, Bharat is second to none. Brahmos, that crises at supersonic speed, to Akash missile, radars and latest digital technology will be on display.
Railways will take pride in telling the Nation that the famous Bullet Train will run on the Indian tracks soon and our compatriots will enjoy travelling in the fast trains as the Chinese and Japanese do now in their countries. Soon the ramshackle railway will have a new look pleasing to our eyes and comfortable in travel.
President Barack Obama, President of the United States of America will be our Chief Guest at the Republic Day Parade. He will be accompanied by his wife, Michelle Obama. They would arrive in New Delhi 0n 25 January 2015 when their Air Force One touches down at the Delhi airport. They will travel to the place of stay in their Cadillac named the Beast. Of course, on the Republic Day Parade President Obama and President Mukherjee will travel together from the Rashtrapati Bhawan to the saluting dais escorted by the PBG – President’s Body Guards.
The US Secret Service that is assigned the responsibility of Keeping US President safe and secure have been solving many puzzles. This is the first time that the US President will be the Chief Guest at the Indian Republic Day Parade and sit on an open rostrum for over two hours along with his lady wife. It is hoped that they would enjoy our school children’s show and varied tableaux displaying the rich cultural heritage of Bharat. Indeed our progress in science and technology will not go unrepresented.
President Barak Obama and Mrs Michelle Obama are not likely to see the spectacle of Military Band Music in Beating Retreat as they would return home on 27th January 2015. Indeed he would participate in Narendrabhai Modi’s innovative and interesting programme on Akashvani, MANN KI BAAT.
The present visit of the President of the United States to Bharat to participate in the national event, Ganatantra Divas, will be of mutual advantage to both the countries –the guest and the host. The two august leaders of the oldest democracy and the largest democracy will know each other much better and may enter into strategic and financial partnership to keep rogue elements and failed states at bay.
The Islamist terror is posing a threat to the civilized states and it is in the interest of the latter to come close to destroy the Islamist terror mechanism for good. The civilized nations must not give any quarter to terrorists as they are the sworn enemies of the civilized nations. Any form of compromise with terrorists at this stage will be like committing Harakiri or Atm Hatya. The Vedic Thought enjoins on all followers of the Vedic culture and Vedic Dharma to not commit suicide as it is a sin. Pacifism is counter-productive at this stage. Our policy must conform to dictum: Eye for an Eya; Tooth for a Tooth. Never mind if a large number of men go blind in one eye or become toothless in the process of seeking a way to take revenge. We will succeed in uprooting and destroying Islamist Terrorism from our planet Earth. Let Peace Prevail alover on this Earth.
AUM SHANTIH SHANTIH SHANTIH.
