SENA MEIN MAHILA SASHAKTIKARAN
MAHILA SASHAKTIKARAN IN ARMED FORCES ON DISPLAY
By Brigadier Chitranjan Sawant,VSM
Come 26 January 2015 and the Rajpath will be all decked up for the Republic Day Parade. Our Rashtrapati, Pranab Mukherjee will take the salute of the Defence Forces contingents. President Barak Obama, President of USA will be the Chief Guest. Shri Narendra Modi, our Prime Minister will be on the rostrum. Before the Parade PM Narendra bhai Modi will pay homage to Martyrs at the Amar Jawan, India Gate.
Mahila Sashaktikaran is the theme of the Republic Day this year. In conformity with this the Army, the Navy and the Air Force will field a contingent each of 148 women marching officers and cadets. They have been practising for six hours daily – three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. The standard of the drill has shown tremendous improvement and the women officers have acquired a lot of self confidence. Their aim plus is to attract more women cadets to the Services who will become officers after training.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had originally floated the idea of making Mahila Sashaktikaran the theme this Republic Day, his first one since taking over as the Pradhan Mantri of Bharat. The President of the United States will return home well impressed with the role of our women officers of the three Services. Indeed it will be an additional feather in our national cap.
As the Mahila contingents practise their drill and words of command they are bound to shine more and more. Of course, they will put up their best performance on the Republic Day Parade when they march down the Rajpath in their resplendent uniform, upright body, cheerful face, chest out and chin in. CHATAK CHAL of the marching contingents is no more the prerogative of the men folk as women have made their debut. Three cheers to them and for them.
