THE DUMMY PM OF INDIA
By Brigadier Chitranjan Sawant,VSM
Dr Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister of India by chance. Sonia Gandhi did not wish to accept the office in 2004 because her children were scared that she might meet the fate of her husband and mother in law and be killed. Out of that mortal fear she surrendered her claim to the high office of Prime Minister and chose Dr Manmohan Singh as the Dummy PM. The Dummy accepted the offer gladly for loaves and fishes of the office but could never become the real Prime Minister for the two tenures that he occupied the 10, Race Course Road as it tenant by default.
Old Manmohan is not a leader, least a political leader. He never won an election to the Lok Sabha and could never claim the chair of PM as a matter of right. He was subservient to a foreign lady called Sonia Gandhi in Bharat and Maino in Italy, her country of birth. More on her later.
Manmohan knew that he had assumed the high office as a BAKHSHISH from a Firang Ma’am and had no option but to kowtow to her every now and then; shall we say every day. The current joke had been that he never forgot to take permission of 10, Janpath where Sonia lived in the royal style about the colour of his turban.
The cartoonists took delight in portraying Manmohan as the yes man of Sonia. YES MINISTER of the BBC changed into YES MADAM.
Manmohan Singh felt peeved when his hobby horse; the Nuclear deal with USA w2as junked by the madam who had the wnwritten power to rule the country and over-rule the dejure PM. Sanjay Baru has painted it in many word pictures in his latest book on Manmohan Singh. Without borrowing from the said book, I may safely say that all important files were first cleared by the foreign Ma’am before they were put up to Manmohan Singh, the elected Pm, with a verbal proviso that he could sign as Sonia Madam had cleared them. The Dummy PM just swallowed the insult day after day as a bureaucrat named Pulak Chatterji had dire3ct access to Sonia Gandhi but the dummy Pradhan Mantri did not enjoy that privilege.
The question arises why did Manmohan not submit his resignation and lived life of a free citizen with honour and dignity? The answer is simple. The old Sardar did not have the moral courage to face a foreign lady because he had patnered her in plundering India. He perhaps did not use the ill gotten wealth himself but let others do so. He stood beholden to foreigners for one favour or the other. He even kneeled down to Pakistan and was prepared to offer SIACHEN to the enemy on a silver platter. All this was being done in the hope of being blessed with the Nobel Peace Prrize. Alas the prize never came his way.
The posterity will remember Manmohan Singh as the weakest Prime Minister of India so far.
