DEFENDING MOTHER INDIA IS SUPREME :
AGNI V IS THE FITTING REPLY TO NEIGHBOURS
By Brigadier Chitranjan Sawant,VSM
Ravana, the king of Lanka was killed in combat by Maryada Purshottam Shri Ram and the vanquished nation lay at the mercy of the victor who was the arbiter of its destiny now. Shri Ram and his army harboured no sinister design and went by the high morality of a Dharm Yudh. No disrespect to women of Lanka, the word Rape did not exist in their lexicon, LOOT or plunder was a word unheard of in Ayodhya and the same concept of treating the defeated enemy with dignity guided the thought and action of Shri Ram’s Sena in Lanka too.
MOTHERLAND IS SUPERIOR TO HEAVEN
The only off the mark thought that dominated the minds of youngsters who loved fun and frolic in a foreign land was the proposal put forward to them by the middle men to buy some landed property and live in luxury in the sylvan surroundings of a tropical land like Lanka. However, Shri Ram shot down the thought of his officers and soldiers settling down in Lanka by uttering the famous words of PATRIOTISM that were immortalized by men of letters, artists, painters , dramatists and performing stage artists generation after generation for many a millennia. Shri Ram said:
“ JANANI JANMABHUMISHCH SWARGADAPI GARIYASI.’
Both my mother and my motherland take precedence over the Heaven. Thus Shri Ram had rekindled the feeling of Patriotism among the rank and file of his army that comprised assorted type of soldiers both civilized and the semi-civilised. They bowed to the wish of their supreme commander, Shri Ram and left the land of the vanquished nation as per schedule after the colourful coronation of Vibhishan was solemnized. Now the thought of returning to motherland to be available for service, both civil and the military, be at the beck and call of their patriotic political and religious leaders and carry out their orders issued on behalf of their motherland for defending it against any attack or thwarting the subversive activities of fifth columnists and sinister designs of a potential adversary.
DEFENCE OF MOTHER INDIA
The Indian Army lives by a moto, NATION ABOVE ALL. The entire nation has to live by one moto: SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR MOTHER INDIA.
So far so good. Now comes the ACTION or putting into practice what the citizens and their leaders have learnt in theory. The Leaders of the Nation have to be highly motivated themselves, above selfishness who have lost interest in making money or running after pretty women and get them at any cost. Those who have risen above the aforesaid temptations will have a well rounded personality with STRENGTH OF CHARACTER. LEADERS DRAW ADMIRATION OF THE LED AND KEEP ON CULTIVATING NOBLE THOUGHTS THAT GIVE THE MOST PRECIOUS TRAIT OF A LEADER’S PERSONALITY – MORAL COURAGE.
Moral Courage holds a leader in good stead and helps him lead his men, now women too, through thick and thin.
India that is Bharat as is written in the Constitution of India is indeed a land of diversity. Unity in Diversity has been our slogan and we have been trying to achieve it. Many a time it seems to be next to impossible but sometimes it seems to be almost achievable. However, there is no denying the fact that the road of diversity that we travel on to reach the goal of unity is no bed of roses. It is almost seven decades that we have been enjoying the fruits of freedom but Unity as envisaged in our Constitution is still a far cry. Unfortunately, the wheel of TIME is sometimes put in the reverse gear and it fills a patriotic Indian with Sadness.
The Directive Principles of the Constitution of India promote Common Civil Code for all citizens irrespective of the faith they profess. The Uniform Civil Code would have taken the Nation a step closer to Unity and would have minimized the work of law makers, that is the legislators, minimized the work of the judiciary, not forgetting legal practitioners and students of law. However, there was a tremendous opposition from some minority communities, especially the Muslims and the dream of having Common Civil Code just remains to be a piped dream.
Fortunately, the Code of Criminal Law, as we inherited from the British system of Jurisprudence, happens to be common for all citizens of India. It has been a blessing in disguise, thanks to the erstwhile foreign rulers of our motherland, the British Government in India. Of course, in keeping with the tradition of the Indian National Congress, leaders like Rajiv Gandhi did try to tinker with it like in the case of Shah Bano wherein he brought a new piece of legislation curbing the jurisdiction of the courts of law in administering the Criminal Procedure Code for grant of alimony to a divorced Muslim woman. That action reversing the order of the Supreme Court to appease the Muslim electorate was indeed reprehensible.
The second condemnable action of the Congress party led governments at the Centre and the States has been to permit the functioning of the Shariah Courts for Muslim litigants. Indeed, the govt action is against the spirit of the Constitution of India that envisaged Uniform Civil Code for all religions but got in return separate courts for Muslims to try their civil suits. This is a step in the direction of vivisection of courts of law trying civil cases. India is a Secular State that promoted Islamic religious courts like the Shariah courts where law of the land will not be applied but law of the Muslims framed in Arabia. The Congress party has stooped so low to conquer a handful votes of the Muslims that became oblivious of dangers in future when the same community might demand administration of criminal justice as per Shariah and not as per the Code applicable for all now. Where is India that is Bharat heading to?
Vivisection weakens the social order and the Nation. Uniformity leading to Unity strengthens the Nation and enhances its capacity to defend itself against powerful enemies. What is reprehensible is that the century plus old political party does not care for the Defence of India but cares for its seat of power. The country may go to the dogs, who cares?
The Fifth Column activities in India are going on unchecked. The Intelligence network of our government is as weak as ever. We have been losing battles and wars in the past because our commanders and rulers knew little about the enemy forces and could not anticipate the attack time, what to say of knowing their weapon system and tactics in battle. Even when our rulers in Delhi knew that an attack was developing or has begun and is progressing towards the capital city, Delhi, the non-chalant attitude was reflected in these words,“ HINOZ DILLI DOOR AST” or Delhi is still far off. It resulted in a total defeat of the Delhi forces and that was followed by a general massacre and total loot never heard of before.
The careless attitude of the government of the day leads to an ignoble defeat that brings shame like the one in 1962 when Jawaharlal Nehru was at the helm of affairs.
DEFENCE CAPABILITY TO-DAY
Is India prepared to defend itself today in the year 2013? It is a question of grave importance and must be analysed threadbare before a defence expert ventures to risk a reply. To start with we must know who our enemy is or is likely to be? Looking at the strategic situation obtaining on our borders today, one may safely say that our potential enemies are likely to be :
a) PEOPLE’S Republic of China b) Islamic Republic of Pakistan
The next question that arises as a natural corollary is: Is there a strategic possibility of both China and Pakistan launching a United Attack against India? The answer is Yes and No. A deeper analysis is required before reaching a definitive answer.
c What is the state of defence preparedness of India? We should examine it from different angles that are relevant today. Also if the Maoist or Naxalite presence and their effectiveness in putting fear of the Maoist Rebel Strength into villagers’ hearts will make an impact on Defence preparedness to face both China and Pakistan
d) The Islamist Terrorism has been effective in India because we have not dealt with them with an iron hand. Their repeated attacks on the Indian Establishment and going scotfree thereafter goes to show the chinks in the Indian armour. The earlier India kills or chases away Islamists into Pakistan or drown them into the Arabian Sea the better it would be for the Armed Forces of India in thwarting a foreign invasion.
MILITARY BALANCE OF CHINA AND INDIA
Frankly speaking India is no match to China militarily and financially. As we know, in the modern warfare it is the entire nation that goes to war and not just the army, the navy or the air force. One may assess the Chinese strength financially by looking at their currency, YUAN and taking a close look at its position in the international financial market. Suffice it to say that when national currencies of super powers were a bit shaky, the Chinese Yuan stood firm where it was and remained absolutely unshaken.
China has been placing its trust on its Missile power and submarines for quite sometime. Since the Ballistic Missiles with a range to strike and knock down the major military cantonments, arsenals and metropolitan cities that are the hub of communication.
AGNI V has been successfully test launched twice and indeed is a deterrent to our hostile neighbours. The range of this long distance ballistic missile is 5,ooo Km and it is capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Well, without bragging, one may say that the AGNI_V is capable of striking targets in Beijing, the capital of People’s Republic of China. However, it does not mean that India is beating war drums or is indulging in war mongering. In plain and simple terms it means that India is not to be taken lightly.
